Founded by Turkish Association of Health and Medical Treatment, Fatih University officially opened at the inauguration ceremony attended by ex-President Süleyman Demirel on 18 November 1996.
Fatih University is administered by a Board of Trustees having 15 Members. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences, The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Engineering Faculties, Institutes of Sciences and Social Sciences and School of Vocational Studies are located in Istanbul while the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Vocational School of Medical Studies, and School of Vocational Studies are in Ankara.
There
are 17 student clubs that provide the students with the opportunity
to perform social and cultural studies. Fatih
University is founded with the purpose of teaching science and technology,
both vitally important to the country’s development, and to
support studies regarding the two. Founded by Turkish Association
of Health and Medical Treatment in order to create modern scientific
environments as in other institutions of higher education, Fatih
University aims at providing education for Turkish people so that
they can do their best for Turkey’s future. In its full fledged
laboratories where rapid and easy access to the most recent information
is available, the University is in the pursuit of providing the
youth with modern facilities in the all fields of sciences, engineering
and social sciences, aiming to educate people who will contribute
to the scientific and technological enhancement of the country.
In its undergraduate and graduate programs
the University places emphasis on the production of information
and technology by students.
Regarding social sciences, the aim is to provide education for future scientists who will ponder upon the potential problems of the new century to contribute to their solution. The medical faculties and vocational schools will help meet the demand for intermediary medical personnel as well as conduct medical studies. The Vocational School of Nursing and the Vocational School of Medicine will educate qualified personnel who will ably use new medical technologies while improving their knowledge in the field. Scientific conferences, panel discussions and seminars are placed importance as regards the University’s pursuit of educating students in line with Atatürk’s thoughts. As such, studies and theses will be carried out on the subjects of Turkey’s security, national interests and the unavoidable qualities of the Turkish Republic. Studies to be conducted on Turkish foreign policy, Eurasia, Balkans, and the Middle East will contribute scientifically to the reinforcement of the Turkish view of history. Preventing the brain-drain caused by Turkish scientists attracted by the opportunities abroad and creating a desirable academic environment them is deemed an essential target. Educating scientists through its graduate programs is also important for the University. The opportunities provided for graduate students who are granted scholarships will help fill the gap in this field, and qualified students pursuing such programs will contribute to higher education in Turkey. In line with the aims specified above, the University provides students with the latest technological equipment in sciences, engineering and social sciences.
